One day, it was just a day like any other, I was doing laundry and in the process of taking my husband’s clothes out of the dryer.
I discovered a folded up sticky note in the pocket of his jeans.
I unfolded it and found some words written in black ink. They were in French, and a small heart was drawn to the side. There was also an initial in the bottom right corner, as if it was signed. Since we didn’t speak French, I found it pretty weird. So, I Googled it. While not always accurate, Google translate was the easiest tool at my fingertips. I’ve forgotten the original French, but I’ll never forget the translation:
Leave the future to want.
And I can’t forget the heart or the initial that was signed. I knew one woman whose name started with that initial, and she worked with my husband. Why in the world would he have this sticky note in his pocket? So, I asked him.
His story goes that the note was, indeed, written by the woman who works with him, and that he had found it stuck to his computer in his office. He said he had no idea what it meant or why she’d written it. When I expressed that I found it upsetting, he told me I was just being jealous and making something out of nothing. So I went back to the laundry.
I’ve never, however, forgotten that note.
